How to make your home look more luxurious

Posted on

Adding a touch of luxury to certain areas of your home can make an enormous difference not only to how it looks, but also to its potential resale value. If you like the idea of making your house a little more opulent but aren't quite sure where to begin, consider a few of the following ideas.

Build a beautiful bathroom

An elegantly-decorated bathroom with some high-end design features can give your home that wow factor. A deep-set sink, marble tiles and heated towel racks will all help to add an air of luxury to this part of the house. If your budget will allow for it, you might also want to splash out on a roll-top, claw-footed bathtub, or perhaps a power shower in a beautiful, frameless glass enclosure.

If your decorating funds are a bit more limited, simple additions like a new set of hotel-quality, white fluffy towels, along with a new, well-made shower curtain and bathmat will help to revive your bathroom and give it a more lavish look.

Control the temperature

One of the key components of a luxurious property is comfort. Being able to alter the temperatures in each individual room, according to the weather and your own personal preferences is a fantastic way to make your house feel more opulent. Whilst a decent central heating system and portable fans are both fine options for managing temperatures, they don't exactly scream luxury.

If you want to upgrade your home, consider installing an air conditioning system, along with under-floor heating. The former will make the searing heat of the summer months far more bearable, ensuring that you stay perfectly cool and comfortable on the hottest of days, whilst the latter will enable you to pad around the house barefoot, even if the temperatures drop below zero. Under-floor heating also has the added advantage of not visually impeding on the appearance of each room of your home, as radiators tend to do.

Invest in high quality fabrics

Whilst you can certainly make a property look more opulent by installing some immediately eye-catching features (such as a marble fireplace or a crystal chandelier), oftentimes it's the finer details which give a home an air of luxury. Replacing scruffy, polyester curtains, throws and fabric sofas with ones made from high-quality materials is a wonderfully-effective way to enhance the appearance of your home. Thick velvet curtains, silk cushion covers and a real leather footrest can transform an otherwise simple room into a lavish and beautiful space, fit for a king and queen.
